Learn about the importance of insurance in Cargo Transportation!
In Colombia, the number of companies that have insurance to cover merchandise risks is low. According to a Fasecolda report, "in Colombia only 20% of companies have policies to cover contractual risks".
It is important to see cargo insurance as an investment for a company's logistics activity, especially when taking into account the high risks to which cargo is exposed, such as land piracy, looting and, in this case, national strikes.
It is worth mentioning that there are different types of policies among which we can mention:
Warehousing insurance, which protects merchandise that is stopped in port.
Transport of goods insurance (Total Loss), which covers trucks that are burned during strikes, among others.
Protection known as loss of profits, which returns to the importer or exporter the income that was not received due to an eventuality such as a strike. For example, if at the time of the incident they did not have insurance, they would lose their cargo.
In conclusion, it seems that national stoppages are part of everyday life in Colombia. Knowing this, companies must take the necessary measures to protect their goods and logistics processes.
